 Axis Pro Series foam cutters options
Computerized ProTurn Turntable
Available as an option for the Craftsman, Pro and Industrial Series machines, the
fully computerized ProTurn Turntable
will open a world of dimensional abilities. The ProTurn Turntable is an
automated, computer driven process which requires no user intervention once started. The ProTurn
allows the user to create designs from as simple as a 180° turn to as complex as a
different profile every 0.225°.
By the basis of its design the ProTurn does not create “true” 3D objects.
Instead it cuts a series of flat XY vertical cuts with a specified turn of the turntable
between each successive cut.

For example to create a symmetrical object such as a soda bottle, the designer will
design a silhouette view of a bottle. This profile is then loaded into the
Foam Cutter Company software
and the designer specifies how many times this design will be repeated around the circle.
If the designer chose to have 40 facets on the bottle, this will create 40 small flat
faces on the surface or a flat every 9°. The Axis will cut the first silhouette and the
wire
 will pause at the end position, the turntable turns 9° and the silhouette is cut
downwards as the wire returns to the starting point. Once the wire reaches the starting
point it will again pause while the turntable turns 9° and the silhouette is cut again.
This process is repeated until the complete soda bottle is cut.
One very productive application of the ProTurn is the production of caps and bases for
columns. If this design is repeated 4 times (once every 90°) you will create a unique
design with very little manual labor required.
In a similar yet slightly different procedure the ProTurn is also capable of cutting
non-symmetrical objects such as a unique shape, perfume bottle, cellular phone
(see drawing on the right), etc. Similar to cutting a
symmetrical object, the Axis cuts a silhouette design and pauses while the turntable
turns. However on the return cut, the Foam Cutter Company software reads ahead and has loaded the second
profile shape (which may be different from the first) and cuts the second profile while
returning to the start point. Again the wire pauses once it reaches the start point, the
turntable turns and the Foam Cutter Company software has read the third profile and starts to cut this
on the upward cut. This process is repeated until
 all the profiles are cut.
The ProTurn is a very powerful option that will undoubtedly set the precedent for others
to follow.
